Malacon said the DA, assisted by the municipal government officials, distributed P3.5 million worth of palay and corn drier to farmers in Brgy. San Isidro, EB Magalona, that he expects to boost their production and help uplift their lives.

He also announced the construction of a P2.9 million worth of fish landing facility (pala-pala) at Brgy. Tomongtong, which is the landing area for “blue crabs”, in EB Magalona next month.

The “ pala-pala”, the construction of which will be facilitated by the municipal government and financed by BFAR, will also house the command center of Bantay Dagat.

To further preserve its famous blue crab industry, the municipal government is looking for an alternative livelihood of fishermen who may be affected by the proposed banning of the harvesting of blue crabs during the off-season.

The administration of Malacon initially started December last year its Ugyonan Seafood Festival, in an effort to further promote marine products taken from its coastal areas.

Yesterday Malacon also distributed P600,000 worth of fish gears to members of the fishermen’s associations in Brgys. Latasan, Tuburan, Tomongtong, Gahit, Madalag, Manta-angan and Batea, all in EB Magalona.*
